During the 1930s and 40s,one of the most eagerly awaited holiday events was the Halloween Carnival put on by the ladies of the Eastern Star.
The festivities were held in downtown Pompano at the Florida East Coast loading platform, and included a parade, a costume contest, plenty of food and treats, a turkey raffle and bingo games. Local public organizations rented booths at the event to promote their causes.
